Gluten Free Beer in Minnesota

Gluten Free Beer – Dedicated Facility!!

Do you enjoy a crisp, tart, cold beer like me? I would make it a game during the summer months, of finding the sourest beer out there. I always enjoyed this prior to my diagnosis of celiac. Pryes Raspberry Sour (Northeast, Minneapolis) was one of my absolute favorites. You could always find me sipping on the tartest ones! It took a while to find something that even compared to a tart, cold, crisp, sour beer, that was gluten-free of course! Us coeliac’s like to enjoy a cold beer too! Finally, I found a 100% dedicated Gluten Free Brewery in St. Paul, Minnesota by the name of Burning Brothers Brewery. There are not many 100% dedicated GF breweries out there. It felt like I hit the jackpot, especially when I found out this one even had a sour.

Burning Brothers Brewery

When I made the trip to St. Paul to check it out I knew it was going to be safe. The minute I walked in there was a sign on the door. It marked that they were a dedicated gluten-free facility and that you couldn’t bring in gluten items. They had more than just sours. From Hard Sodas, Ales, Lagers, and more. The first time they had two sour options a Cherry Sour, which is always on tap, and a seasonal Cranberry Sour available throughout the winter. I left that day with two growlers and two crowlers, DELICIOUS.

The cherry sour was my family’s favorite having more of a tart finish and dark color. The cranberry sour was a good change-up but was not as tart as the cherry.

It took only a couple of weeks to top off the ones we picked up and we have consistently returned. Each time we always enjoy the Cherry Sour, but we also try any new ones on tap. The last time they had a Helles Handbasket sour, which is light, crisp, and easy to drink.

Where to enjoy Burning Brothers Beer?

The atmosphere is great inside especially if you’re looking to go out and have a drink with friends and family. They do sometimes have gluten-free food trucks or you can order from different gluten-free places. If you’re more of a homebody, you can bring home this fantastic beer to have with your dinner. I’d also recommend going to the facility to have a drink with friends and family. Burning Brothers (Dedicated Gluten Free) is overall a GREAT option. They sell cans, growlers, and crowlers at the brewery location. You can also find some of their beer options canned in liquor stores across the Twin Cities. They’re at (Hyvee, Kowalski’s, Can Can Wonderland, Marshall Liquor’s, and more listed on their website).

If you’re looking for another great beer option try Glutenberg. They brew 100% gluten-free and have fantastic beer options based out of Canada. Their blonde is easy to drink, crisp, and has an awesome flavor. I’ve found their beer canned at many liquor stores including Hyvee. Their beer is also available at restaurants including Red Cow.

What I love about the dedicated gluten-free beer facilities is there is no worry for cross-contamination! This is the safest option for those of us with celiac. The market for gluten-free beer continues to grow, but it is no easy task to make gluten-free beer. The gluten-free ingredients used in beer do not react the same as barley. Barley happens to be one of the most popular grains used to make beer. The gluten-free beer must be made from another grain like rice, corn, quinoa, millet, sorghum, or buckwheat.
